Is anywhere safe anymore?

Are you concerned about the way of the world and worried that there are no places left where you can be sure that there will not be trouble of some kind?

It is a reality that terrorism and acts of violence seem to be more prevalent than ever, but there are still places where the likelihood of anything going wrong is fairly remote.

Chances are that if you have never heard of it, neither have the terrorists.  So, here are a few possible destinations to consider.

Iceland –wild, untouched, dramatic and the place where Game of Thrones has done a lot of its filming.  Spectacular, beautiful and safe.

Nuie – where you say?  Exactly.  A tiny island in the South Pacific with two flights a week.  Rugged coastline, great sea wildlife and a place to relax, renew and restore.

The Maldives – long recognised as a great spot for a honeymoon, the No phones, No shoes, No newspapers policy means the ultimate in relaxation and truly getting away from it all.

Canada – yes, even the big countries can be very safe.  Canada is spectacular on a scale second to none.  Wilderness abounds, the people are very friendly, you have all the mod cons without the guns of the USA, and without the paranoia as well.  Scenery, culture, history, wildlife, food and wine, outdoor activities – Canada has it all.

Oman – yes, a Muslim country and the place where the Emirati go for a holiday.  Hospitable, stable, safe and friendly and so diverse.  Oman has everything from desert and fjord lands similar to Norway, terraced market gardens and even rainforest.  Home to the frankincense trade for thousands of years it has history to burn.

Don’t let the headlines put you off travelling.  The best way to overcome fear and ignorance is to go and meet other people where they live.  Our similarities are far stronger than our differences.
